The Ashland Rotary Club sponsored a Bookcase Project recently where people in the community built personalized bookcases for local children.

Rotary Club President Julia Wright initiated the idea and since they began the project in January more than fifty bookcases have been made and more than 3,000 books were donated.

The bookcases were filled with books for the little ones and given to them during a ceremony on Sunday. Along with the books, the children received a stuffed puppy to cuddle up with and read to, as a reading buddy Wright says the teachers whose students have received donated books and read to by volunteers, have seen an increase in vocabulary, and gained the ability to rhyme and comprehend.
